If I Won The Lottery....

How many of you bought a ticket (or 20) for the Mega Millions lottery last week? Friday, my newsfeed on Facebook was filled with people posting pics of their tickets (are you fucking serious people?? WTF is the point of that??). Businesses were using the lottery to spread the word by promising that if they won the money, they would share it with everyone who "liked" or "shared" their page. So not only did I have photos of tickets cluttering my feed, I also had these likes and shares cluttering up my feed. None of these people won. So why do people do it? It's the dream. The dream of having that one golden ticket that wins the 640 million dollars (or however much it was). Apparently, 3 winning tickets were sold.. but they have not all come forward yet (why??????). It had me thinking, what would I do if I won a million dollars (or 640 mill)? How would my life change? Would strangers or old old acquaintances suddenly show up at my door asking for a handout? Would I give it to them??

Here is what I would do if I had won the Mega Millions:

Buy a new house. Yes, I like our house that we live in now, but it still needs a lot of work and I don't really like the location. Actually, instead of buying a new house, we would design one exactly how we want it, and then put it on some land out in the country. The house would not be a mansion. A huge house is just more to clean and collect clutter. It would be a house that is big enough for all of us. A bedroom for each of the kids and maybe an extra room to use as an office area. Our yard would be fenced in and we may even have a few farm animals (I want goats!).. and I would be able to start working on my dream of owning an animal rescue/sanctuary. Oh, and I have to have a nice pool. It gets hot in the summer in Ohio and I would love to have a nice inground pool to soak in... surrounded by a privacy fence, of course, haha.

New vehicles. I've never bought a car brand new off of the lot never been driven before. I would get a sports car to use most of the year and then some type of 4x4 SUV for in the winter because winters can be treacherous here.

Pay off debt. I would pay off alll of our old debt and begin building up our credit (really though, would we NEED credit with that much money?)

Travel. I've never traveled out of the country (unless Canada counts). I would love to travel to Ireland or Italy or even London. It would be hard to pick just one.. and fly in first class! woooo!

After that, I'd just want to make sure that our family was all taken care of and had everything we needed. I would spoil the kids but not TOO much. I would still teach them how to appreciate the little things and to work for what they have. I would buy my mom a little house so that she had no rent to pay and I would pay her back for alllll the money she has ever loaned us plus extra.

The sad thing is, I really don't have any good friends that I would help out. No friends that I am really close enough to that I would buy them a new house or anything. I love to help people though, so we would give a lot to charity, especially animal rescue charities.

If old acquaintances or strangers showed up at my door I would tell them to fuck off. I would help the people who truly need it and I would try to do good with it.

It's so nice to dream, isn't it? What would you spend your millions on??

Strangely my million dollar plans are similar to your plans. I'd buy a large piece of property (over 10 acres) out in the country, custom build a home for us along with two additional guest style homes, get a new (or at least new to us) passenger van, pay off debts, and plan a great vacation.

A guest house would be nice for when visitors come! I'll add it to my list, haha

My hubs and I regularly daydream about what we'd do...
we also play the what would we do with all of our money if we didn't have any kids game...

Hahaha, I've played the what would we do without any kids game, too! Kids are money sucking vile little creatures!!

The first thing I'd do would be to take that money to a financial advisor. I'd also invest in some real estate and maybe set up a small trust fund for any future kids.

My Thirsty for Comments post is here.

I'd never win because I never play... but if I had a million dollars I would set up a college fund for each of my kids, pay off the bills and the house, finally buy the mini-van of my dreams and take a trip.

My husband bought a few tickets! If we ever won the lottery we would have very similar plans!

I bought 20 tickets and so did my boyfriend. We usually NEVER buy them, but how could we pass the up the teeny tiny chance that we could have won?

We actually talked a bit about what we'd do with it. I figured that I could give each of my siblings, nieces and nephews and my parents a million and still have enough left over that we'd never have to worry about money again. We could do the same for his family. But then, we realized, that there would need to be stipulations....like for the younger kids...you know, get their college paid for, where ever they wanted to go, then so much when they graduate, then so much at a certain age. Just to keep the younger ones from blowing it all right away and to make sure they get the most from the gift.

But after all that, I would then hire a full-time, live in tutor and then travel the world with my son and my boyfriend. We would go experience all that we could until we just wanted to come home. We'd get a house, much like you, one that fits but isn't ridiculously large. I'd rather have a smaller home and more security. Maybe that comes from being a single mom for 15 years. I'd go to school, this time to nourish and enrich my creative side, like I've always wanted to do. I'd give my son every opportunity to live out his dreams so that he'd live the fullest of lives.

Then, I'd use some to help others. I've always wanted to start a charity that helps singe mothers somehow. I'd help them learn to love their selves, to forgive their selves from the mistakes they've made, and help them to feel secure in their ability to provide for their children, and their own selves.

You could live forever on a million dollars... I don't know what in the world I would do with $640 million, but it would be nice to find out. I never buy lottery tickets anymore. But IF I did, and I won I too would buy land out in the country in Tennessee. I would design a log cabin just the way I have always wanted since I was a child. I agree with you Deanna, the bigger the house means more to clean. I wouldn't want a mansion. I would have enough land for a garden and for horses. I too would bye my mother a house so she didn't have to worry about money for rent or bills or living in general. I have always dreamed of going to Scotland and while I'm dreaming I will just visit the whole of Europe! I may even buy a house in Scotland and stay there half the year. I would buy me a brand new car, like you said. I have a had a brand new car but that is when I was 21 and has been 22 years ago... I would pay off my sisters mortgage and buy my other sister a house so her children never had to worry about a place to live or what they were going to eat. Animals are a passion for me also, so I would donate a lot of money to the animal shelter... well heck I would have a kennel built on my land and adopt some more dogs. Of course I would go shopping for new clothes and take my mother and sisters with me. My brother would not let me buy him squat, but I would do it anyways. Sorry I could go on and on. HA! Thanks for the dream if even for a few minutes.
