Today is January 1, 2010. I didn't do much to celebrate the new year. I never really do much on New Year's Eve. Guess I just don't feel the need to go out and get shitfaced drunk just because it's the start of the New Year. I can do that any time I want, lol! I started a new tradition with my kids last night before putting them to bed. We talked about all of the fun things we did in 2009, and it was a lot of fun having all of us (including hubby) here to remember all of the things we did. That gave me an idea for another post here *gasp* two posts in one week?? Holy Crap! lol..
I will start with the good:
My husband and I did not separate (lol, we did in '96 and '98) and we are actually doing very well!
In April, we went to Virginia and Tennessee to visit my sister in law who lives right on the VA/TN border. It was absolutely beautiful down there. We stayed in a hotel for the week and even took the dog. We saw so many awesome things. We went to Gatlinburg while we were down there and went to the Ripley's Aquarium, saw a ton of beautiful mountains. Met some very nice southern folk while down there. Just loved it down there and didn't want to come home! It took us almost a full day to get back because we stopped at a few places along the way back up to Ohio. We went to a natural tunnel, walked all the way to the bottom of the mountain to see it and then back up (thought I was gonna die a few times, lol). We also stopped at a war site in KY and did some walking there, too. Then we got to flat, boring Ohio. *sigh* My husband has been bugging me about moving to TN ever since his sister moved there a few years ago. The only thing keeping me here is my 96 yr old grandmother; I don't want to be that far away from her knowing that her last day could be any day!
We got rid of our old clunkers and got some decently nice vehicles this year! (I love my 4x4 Jimmy!).
We went to the beach a few times and spent the day there swimming.
We took the kids to Cedar Point for their first time, and was also my 1st time back there since 1995!
We moved to this beautiful house in May. Even though we are just renting it and it won't be our forever home, I just love it!
Moved back to my hometown. Even though I always said I hated this town and after moving away for 9 years thought I would never come back, it feels good to be back "home" where I know people.
My son started Kindergarten, finally (he had to wait an extra year because his birthday was 9 days after the deadline for being 6).
We saw my sister in law quite a bit; we normally only see her once or twice a year since she moved down south.
We went up inside of a Lighthouse with the kids.
We took the kids to the Space Museum.
I started college.
I made a lot of great new friends at college.
I gained a lot of confidence since starting college.
Mentally, I think I have changed quite a bit, for the better! I'm learning to enjoy my life now.
There are a lot of other things we did throughout the year, ofcourse, but these are the ones that stick out. I guess I should learn to cherish these times because the years go by so quickly!
I have to say, this year didn't have many bad things happen. A few things were:
My husband's aunt getting cancer and dying.
My husband was out of work for a little while but luckily was only about a month.
I lost my best friend of 20 years, not because of death, but out of her choice.
I was disappointed with a lot of old friends once I moved back to my hometown.
Both of my moms dogs died in 2009.
That is all I can really think of, apart from the economy, ofcourse. Even though we are struggling financially because my husband's job doesn't pay much, he is lucky to just HAVE a job. I'm hoping that the economy heads upwards this year so everyone can relax and enjoy life instead of worrying about how they are going to be able to afford to live!
Here's to hoping that 2010 is a prosperous new year for everyone, and that your list of good things is longer than your list of bad things that happened in 2010!
